Aces High Squadrons

1stguns richthofen.jpg

1st G.U.N.S. Richthofen

We continue our policy of small but sincere steps of an international community of professional pilots flying and fighting together in different squadrons around the world. Although we are only a small contribution to this, we bring in a lot of experience on the most important topics of running a squadron for many years....

So whatever the future brings.... it will be  challenging and interesting. And we, the 1st G.U.N.S. squadron are prepared to face it! The first - the real - the unique !

49th Fighter Group Fightin 49ers

the unit played an important role in halting Japenese advances in the Southwest Pacific. During four years of World War II combat, the group was successful in providing air defense from Australia to the Phillipines. By wars end, the groups pilots destroyed 678 enemy aircraft, a record surpassing that of any other fighter group  in the Pacific Theater. The group's world War II activities merited two Phillipine Republic Presidential Unit Citations, three Distinguished Unit Citations, and 10 battle Honors. Among the units 43 Aces were Lt.Colonel Boyd D. "Buzz" Wagner, the first world War II ace in the Pacific Theatre, and Major Richard I. Bong, whose 40 kills made him America's number one ace (a record that still stands). The49th soon became endeared to the American people through the nickname, "FIGHTING 49ERS".

56th FG “Zemke’s Wolfpack”

Historically, the 56th Fighter Group finished the war with 992½ confirmed kills, including 665½ in the air, more than any other Eighth Air Force fighter group. Furthermore, the 56th scored 58 probables and 543 damaged in the air and on the ground. Nobody blamed them for rounding off their score. At war’s end a P‑47M was exhibited under the Eiffel Tower, its nose emblazoned with the legend: Zemke’s Wolfpack, 56th Fighter Group, 1,000 Enemy Aircraft Destroyed!

71 Squadron RAF

On 19 September 1940, No. 71 was reformed at Church Fenton as the first 'Eagle' Squadron to be manned by American personnel. The Squadron received Hurricanes in November and became operational on defensive duties on 5 February 1941. No. 71 converted to Spitfires in August and took part in sweeps over northern France. 77th FS Gamblers/Sick Puppies II

In January 1943, the 77th settled at March Field, California, in time to be reassigned to England and the European Theater of Operations during World War II. The 77th, now designated a fighter squadron, arrived at RAF Kings Cliffe, Northamptonshire, England, in August 1943, flying the P-38. The 77th entered combat operations in November 1943, flying combat missions until 25 April 1945, when, armed with P-51 Mustangs, they began escorting "heavies" to Pilzen, Czechoslovakia, in one of the last raids of the war.

The 77th was instrumental in the 20th Group achieving its kill record of 432 enemy aircraft, 400 locomotives, 1,555 freight cars, 94 ammunition cars and 536 motor vehicles destroyed. The 77th left King's Cliffe, England, in the summer of 1945 and was inactivated in October 1945.

80th headhunters.jpg

80th FS “Headhunters”

The Headhunters' history began only one month after Pearl Harbor, as the squadron shipped out to fight in the Pacific Theater. The Squadron was first activated on 10 January 1942 at Mitchel Field in New York.

Originally designated as a pursuit squadron, they were redesignated in May 1942 as a fighter squadron. Attached to the 8th Fighter Group. One of the early squadron commanders, Edward "Porky" Cragg named the Squadron "The Headhunters" after the local New Guinean Headhunter tribes who hated the Japanese and helped to rescue downed pilots. He also commissioned a crew chief, M/Sgt. Yale Saffro, who was once offered a job to work for Walt Disney as a cartoonist but turned it down, to design the 80th's patch. (This original patch design can be seen "here"., and has been officially sanctioned by the Office of Air Force Heraldry for current uniform wear.)

The squadron saw action against the Japanese in the Pacific including deployments in Australia, New Guinea, the Schouten Islands, Morotai, Leyte, Mindoro, and Japan.

Death From Above squadron was officially born on June 6th, 1998. Originally formed in AirWarrior (R.I.P.), our squad currently calls Aces High our home. DFA can be found flying for the "Bishops" country, and one or more of us are often up flying every night. Our members share a common love of WWII aircraft, combat flight sims, and beer...
DFA has a fighter and bomber wing, both operate under the same squad.

Flying Tigers AVG

The Flying Tigers AVG believe in TEAMWORK, and we are always looking for Aces High pilots who believe in our principles. If you fly AH and are interested in joining the Team, take one of us aside and talk to us. Our policy for recruitment is simple, just fly along with the Tigers for at least one Squad Mission and one Training exercise (training is held in the AH training arena on Tuesday nights, 6:00 P.M. Pacific). A member of the Squad will nominate you, and the entire Squad will vote on acceptance. Tigers are asked to commit to attend at least TWO SQUAD EVENTS and TWO TRAINING NIGHTS every month. At other times feel free to fly anywhere at any time, but during Squad Events and Training all Tigers are expected to fly with the Team.

113th “Lucky Strikes”

The 113th takes a more organized approach to game play. Following a loose military chain of command. The 113th’s approach to game play is geared more towards team work and mission success rather than individual point score or fur balling. As a result the 113th is not for everyone.

Types of mission: Fighter Sweeps, Bombers missions, Bomber Escorts and Fighter Attack missions as well as GV missions, using as detailed a mission profile as the game allows. Mission briefings generally include flight element assignments with routes, altitudes, targets, IP’s, egress and rendezvous waypoints, plus all communications channels used.

Types of aircraft used: appropriate for the mission flown. The 113th uses the P38 as its primary aircraft, however, sometimes different missions call for a mix of different aircraft.

Righteous Vengeance

We run missions, bombing runs, GV raids unlike any other squad. We think that the more tactical the game, the more fun and realistic it becomes. Being Tactical is not only a blast to play and act out, it has shown to be reliable as well. Most of our Squad fighter sweeps we have a average of 4-1 kill ratio. of course you cant look at me for that matter cause i get shot down a lot.

Although we are a very tactical squad, we are also laid-back as well. we aren't tactical all the time, we mainly fly tac on squad nights or recruiting campaigns. We have 2 wings and a a total of 40+ active members. We on average have about 5-10 members on for squad nights and our goal is 15+. that is why we need YOU to join now!

The Few

The Few are still open for applications from European or specifically British
players. If you like a high level of teamwork and play GMT hours please check
out our squadron website.

Preferably you will be an elite pilot, have a mic, be able to tune to Ventrilo
without too much hassle and log at least 20 hours a month.

Training will be given to enthusiastic players who are willing to learn.

Scottish applications may take longer to review because we can't have too
many Connery's or the squad would become un-manageable.

Bruv,
